ADAS
The four ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS) functions selected and listed below have the highest impact for PTW safety and awareness:
Speed alert functionality
The speed alert functionality is to inform the rider when the speed exceeds the legal speed limit. Information about legal speed will come from maps and focused with vehicle data. Development of this function is related to integration among IVIS information (maps) and standard data vehicle, as speed.
Curve speed warning
The curve speed warning is to warn the rider that there are high risk factors when negotiating the curve ahead. Excessive speed is derived from the planned speed profile, compared to map based information. Speed recommendation is given, which is the speed that the PTW should have in the next upcoming few seconds.
Frontal collision warning
The frontal collision warning is to warn the driver when there is a risk of collison with an obstacle detected in the near field of the motorcycle. The ADAS will not only detect obstacles, but also evaluate the severity of the encounter. This function is made of two sub functions: one is the safe distance (warn if the distance is too close compared to reaction times) and safe relative speed/path (warn if a prompt correction is needed becase of the front vehicle is crossing our pathway or is slower and the driver appears not to react.
Intersection support
The intersection support is to improve safety on intersections. Intersections are among the most important road critical locations for motorcycles, because unexpected obstacles may cut in. This functionality can be used as well for other dangerous locations as pedestrians crossings, narrow road sections, tunnels, etc. and intents to assure a safe speed when passing by a black spot. Consequently accidents at the most critical road sections can be significantly reduced by this functionality.
